Day by day, the choices we make are influenced by graphic images that bombard us, from tv and internet

to billboards and movie posters. We have been programmed to react in certain ways to certain images.

Most prevalent of all, are images of violence.

With Today Marks the Beginning, the young ladies

of Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School step out into the community

to give a new spin on INFLUENCE in a positive way.

The materials I used on my project were ribbon, pipe cleaners, little blue marbles/pebbles , some beads, construction paper, paint, twine, straws, a sharpie, and I put across the top “PEACE” I made that out of letters that were on 2 book marks that originally said “READ” and I just made the “R” in “READ” to a “P”. I learned that you can make anything out of anything. I was trying to create an image that shows and kind of expresses all the good stuff in life and nature, out in reusable stuff. I want people to, when they look at my artwork, I want them to see our world and its basic aspects created onto poster board that is trying to represent our world’s tenants by making them out of something rare and reusable. That’s what I want my art to say.
