Day by day, the choices we make are influenced by graphic images that bombard us, from tv and internet

to billboards and movie posters. We have been programmed to react in certain ways to certain images.

Most prevalent of all, are images of violence.

With Today Marks the Beginning, the young ladies

of Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School step out into the community

to give a new spin on INFLUENCE in a positive way.

My hands represent what once was segregation and now are united. I used broken CDs that show your reflection because you are supposed to reflect peace on earth. I used the color yellow on the background because it gives light and hope. I used buttons, pebbles, paint, CDs, glitter, and construction paper. My hands are of African American people and Anglos that is the worst segregation I have seen so I tried to show that they are creating peace by being together now. Hint, Hint: my hands were supposed to create the image of a dove.
